Caballo Loco Nº 2
Cabernet Sauvignon - Merlot Cabernet Franc - Pinot Noir.
Origin
Caballo Loco No. 2, a blend of vintages from 1992 to 1995, was bottled in 1996, combining four different years. It shares the same varietal profile as the previous edition—Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Pinot Noir—and the same origins in the Colchagua, Curicó, and Maule valleys (Central Valley Designation of Origin). Displaying a reddish-orange brick hue, it maintains a style characterized by lower alcohol (13.4%) and great freshness and balance. It was aged for 21 months in French and American oak barrels; 36,000 bottles were produced.
Vinification
A portion of this initial blend was strategically reserved: the younger wines continued their individual aging in barrels with the aim of being incorporated into the next edition. Thus was born the method, inspired by the solera system, which today—21 editions later—is still in use.
