Caballo Loco N° 17

Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Cab Franc, Syrah, Malbec, Carignan, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Merlot.

Origin

Caballo Loco No. 17, a compilation of vintages from 1992 to 2013, bottled in 2015, is a blend of 22 vintages, composed of 50% from the No. 16 edition and 50% from the new 2012 and 2013 vintages. This edition incorporates, for the first time, Carignan (from Melozal, Maule Valley) and Syrah (from Limarí), adding a new dimension of complexity: the acidity and freshness of the Carignan provide structure, while the Syrah adds another layer of aroma and flavor. The varietal range thus expands to include Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Malbec, Carignan, Petit Verdot, and Merlot, with vineyards in Maipo, Colchagua, Limarí, Curicó (Sagrada Familia), and Maule, under the Central Denomination of Origin. The color evolves into a vibrant red with deep violet hues, with 14.3% alcohol. Aged for 36 months in French oak barrels; 41,000 bottles produced.

Vinification

Hand-harvested and destemmed, fermented in open fermenters for 10 days for gentle extraction. Post-fermentation maceration for 21 days.
